As we should all know by now, oral health is essential. By looking after your teeth, you’ll maintain their longevity and won’t have to spend a fortune on replacing them. Good oral health also boosts your confidence, and knowing you have a clean and healthy mouth makes interactions with others so much easier.
As dental experts, with years of experience in the dental industry, our team at My Dentist St Leonards have put together this article which outlines what your oral health routine should look like. And while we hope you already know, and do, the following, it’s always good to be reminded.
You should brush your teeth for at least three minutes each time you brush (which should be twice a day). It is important to pay enough attention to all areas of your mouth, and not just clean your front teeth.
Many people do not pay enough attention to flossing. Flossing is vital for good oral health, especially if your teeth are close together or have gaps. To avoid damage to your gums, you should floss gently along the curve of each tooth. Be sure to get between every gap!
You should be rinsing your mouth with dentist-approved mouthwash after every brush. When using mouthwash, you should wash it around your mouth for around 30 seconds, making sure it makes its way to all areas of your mouth before spitting it out.
Clean Your Tongue
Did you know that cleaning your tongue is also very important? Use a toothbrush with a little bit of toothpaste to gently brush your tongue in a circular motion. Alternatively, you can buy a tongue scraper to gently scrape your tongue. Rinse with mouthwash once you’re done!
A Good Diet
A healthy diet plays an integral role in your overall oral health. Ensure that you eat enough fruits and vegetables and not too many sugary or processed items. Be sure to rinse your mouth after every meal.
Going for regular check-ups is the only sure-fire way to ensure that your oral health is all in order. Regular check-ups will really save your oral health in the long run. Also be sure to book an appointment with a dental hygienist regularly.
